Man killed after being hit by car in Rishton named

A man who died after being hit by a car in east Lancashire on Tuesday has been named.

Frank Fielding, 80, from Rishton, suffered serious head and leg injuries when he was struck as he crossed High Street, Rishton, at 17:00 BST.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital in a critical condition and died a short time later, police said.

The driver of the car, which is thought to have been a white Vauxhall Nova, is being treated in hospital.

Sgt Dave Hogarth said: "We are still working to establish exactly what has happened but we believe the white Vauxhall Nova car involved was travelling along High Street towards Blackburn when the collision occurred."
