Star Centre in Rossendale gets £500,000 lottery funding

A group in Lancashire which helps families who have suffered domestic abuse has received £498,000 of Lottery funding.

The Star Centre in Rossendale will use the money over the next five years to launch a new project to provide women and children with specialist support.

They will also start to offer parenting support groups, counselling and courses including self-defence and IT.

Project manager Debra Molyneaux said she was "delighted" to get the funding.

In 2010 the centre helped more than 500 women and children affected by domestic abuse.
