A 57-year-old man has been arrested following a 12-hour siege at a house near Preston.

Armed officers surrounded the house on Kingsfold Drive, Penwortham, shortly after 10:00 GMT on Tuesday, with a team of police negotiators.

The arrested man is being questioned over alleged firearms offences, said Lancashire Police.

Some people were not allowed to leave their homes while others were not allowed into their houses.

Ch Insp Geoff Hurst, who said the incident ended safely just after 22:00 GMT, thanked residents for their cooperation. There was no-one else in the house, the force said.
