A man who died after being found in the street in a Lancashire town may have fallen from a window, police have said.

Ryan Anderton, 18, was discovered by a police patrol car on Kay Street in Rawtenstall at about 03:50 GMT on Saturday. A post-mortem examination has yet to reveal how he died.

Lancashire Police said they now believe Mr Anderson may have fallen from the upstairs window of an unoccupied flat.

Two men arrested over his death have been released without charge.

Det Supt Neil Hunter said: "I am now ruling out that Ryan could have been hit by a car and focussing on him falling out of a window of a nearby unoccupied flat.

"How and why he has fallen is unknown and we are following a number of lines of inquiry.

"This is an incredibly difficult time for Ryan's family who understandably want to find out what has happened to him. We are keeping them informed of any developments in the case.

"I would still appeal to anyone who has information that could assist this inquiry to come forward and contact us."
