Teenager killed in head-on Lancashire crash

A teenager has died following a head-on collision in Lancashire.

The accident, which involved a blue Ford Fiesta and a black Mitsubishi L200, happened on Bacup Road, Cliviger, at about 05:20 GMT.

The 18-year-old driver of the Fiesta was pronounced dead at the scene. A 45-year-old man was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital suffering shock.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Gareth Hill, from Lancashire police, said: "We are at the early stages of the investigation and we are trying to establish the circumstances of exactly what has happened.

"I would appeal to anybody that witnessed the collision itself or saw either vehicle being driven in the area prior to the incident to contact police."

The A671 has been closed between Crown Point and the Burnley Road East junction while police investigators examine the scene.
