Suspected arson at West End Primary School, Morecambe

A fire at a Morecambe school is being treated as arson, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

The blaze broke out in storage sheds at West End Primary School on Chatsworth Road at about 23:00 BST on Monday.

Head teacher Steve Wetherill said one shed containing outdoor toys was totally gutted and another two damaged.

An eyewitness called the fire service and two fire crews attended before the fire spread to the main building. Three classroom windows were damaged.

Mr Wetherill said: "I'm extremely grateful to the person who reported it. Goodness knows what would have happened if they hadn't."

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze fire investigator was working with the police to establish the cause.
