Huncoat A56 crash: Woman dies, man and baby injured

A 35-year-old woman has died and a man is in a critical condition in hospital after a four-vehicle crash in east Lancashire, police have said.

The vehicles collided on the A56 Accrington Easterly bypass at Huncoat, close to the M65, at about 09:45 BST.

The woman and the male driver, both from Burnley, were travelling in a silver Mercedes coupe. A baby in the car suffered minor injuries.

Five other people were treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

Police believe the Mercedes coupe was travelling along the southbound carriageway when it lost control and collided with the other vehicles heading north towards Burnley.

The road has now reopened.
