Ribble cockle beds reopening after weather delay

The cockle beds in the Ribble estuary have been reopened after a delay of two days due to windy weather.

The beds at Foulnaze Bank closed in November following 26 coastguard rescues of ill-equipped and unlicensed boats during two months of cockling.

The North West Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority had said cockling could resume from 1-4 October and again from 15-18 October.

Cockling resumed for a short time in August under tighter regulations.
