Cannabis found in taxi tyre at Heysham port

Cannabis Officers seized 69 packages of cannabis bound for the Isle of Man

Sixty packages containing cannabis have been found in the spare tyre of a taxi in the port of Heysham.

The haul was discovered during a routine search of vehicles bound for the Isle of Man.

The drugs, which were uncovered by sniffer dogs, are thought to have a street value of about £60,000.

Darren Clayton, 40, from Liverpool, appeared before Lancaster magistrates on Monday charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Mr Clayton has been bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on 4 March.
