The snow and cold weather has caused disruption across Lancashire with trains suspended and the closure of a main road.

Trains between Wigan and Preston and Liverpool South Parkway and Blackpool North have been cancelled in both directions because of the weather.

Replacement buses are in place between Warrington and Preston.

The A6177 Grane Road between the Waterside Road junction in Haslingden and Guide in Blackburn is shut.

A Virgin Rail spokesman said some replacement buses are being provided between Warrington and Preston which will stop in Wigan.

National Rail said the alterations caused by damage to overhead wire cables will apply until further notice.

It advises journeys are being delayed by up to an hour.

The weather has led to the postponement of sporting fixtures.

All non-league games in Lancashire except Lancaster's game against Prescott were called off.

And all of the county's Rugby Union games were cancelled.

Hundreds of drivers were stranded on the M6 around Wigan overnight as the motorway was closed in both directions between junctions 25-27.

There are no reported delays at Blackpool Airport.
