The father of a three-year-old girl who died after suffering "severe internal injuries" has denied her murder.

Lia Green was taken to hospital after paramedics were called to her home in Norris Street, Preston, Lancashire, on 30 August but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Post-mortem tests revealed her injuries were caused by "significant violence".

Richard Green, 22, of Harling Road in Preston, pleaded not guilty to murder at the city's Crown Court.

Mr Green, who appeared by videolink, also denied a charge of causing or allowing the girl's death.

Lia's mother Natalie Critchley, 21, of Norris Street in Preston, also appeared via videolink to deny a charge of causing or allowing her death.

Both were further remanded in custody ahead of a trial at the court, which is due to begin on 10 April.
