Police have released a CCTV image in a bid to find a murderer who is on the run from a Lancashire prison.

Brian Lynch, 44, is serving a life sentence for the murder of Chi Keung Yip, 21, in Clayton Vale, Greater Manchester, in March 1988, police said.

Lynch, who is 5ft tall, was on a trip from HMP Kirkham to Preston city centre when he disappeared on Thursday.

He was captured on CCTV at a bus stop on Lancaster Road at about 15:20 GMT when he got on a bus.

Police said he spoke briefly to the driver before getting off.

A couple of hours later he was seen on Stanley Grove in Penwortham walking along a footpath towards Blashaw Lane.

Dirty trainers

Police are also investigating a possible unconfirmed sighting of him in Poulton whereby he may have been seen on Breck Road on Saturday afternoon.

Lynch is described as 5ft tall, of stocky build, with blue eyes, short ginger hair and unshaven.

He was wearing black trousers, a black jacket and dirty grey suede and leather trainers.

A man matching his description approached a couple outside St John's Church and asked for money, telling them he had just been released from prison and was homeless.

Det Ch Insp Andy Gilbert said; "If anyone thinks there is the slightest possibility that they have seen a man who may match his description, I would urge them to contact us immediately."
