Man jailed for 'unprovoked' killing in Morecambe

A man has been jailed for killing another man in an unprovoked attack outside a Lancashire pub.

Paul Ormerod, 55, from Lancaster, died after the incident outside the Joiners Arms in Queen Street, Morecambe, in the early hours of 5 November.

Christopher Kearns, 40, from Morecambe, admitted manslaughter at an earlier hearing.

He was sentenced to three years and four months when he appeared at Preston Crown Court on Monday.

Det Insp Martin Clague said: "This was a mindless act of drunken violence which resulted in the most tragic of consequences."
