A man who was caught in a sting operation has been jailed for 15 months for trying to groom a young girl on the internet.

Kevin Faulkner, 55, of Saltash Road, Thornton Cleveleys, was actually contacting undercover police officers.

He was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday after earlier pleading guilty to attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.

He thought he was contacting a 12-year-old girl, police said.

He encouraged the child to perform sexual acts on herself and tried on numerous occasions to arrange a meeting with the child, police said.

Faulkner travelled to Preston to meet the girl in August, where he was spotted by police officers.

He then made his way back to his home, where he was arrested, police said.

Faulkner was also given a five-year sexual offences prevention order and was put on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
