Crimewatch features 'horrific' attack on man, 83

An "horrific" attack by a burglar on an 83-year-old man in his Lancashire home is to feature on Crimewatch later.

The victim was confronted by a masked man with a knife when he answered the door of his Leyland home at 20:00 GMT on 1 October.

He was pushed over and dragged to his lounge by the ankles as the attacker demanded cash, police said.

The victim was also slashed across the hands as he tried to crawl away. A reward of £3,000 has been offered.

'Very shaken'

The pensioner was forced up the stairs on his knees with the knife pointed at his neck, and forced to watch as the burglar ransacked his possessions taking the man's wallet and cash.

Det Con Karen Johnson said: "This is a horrific crime in which a vulnerable old man has been targeted in his own home.

"The victim was left very shaken by his ordeal and had to be taken to Royal Preston hospital for treatment to cuts to his hands."

The burglar is described as white, in his late 30s, 6ft tall and heavily-built and speaking with a local accent.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers.
