Paraglider Rob Kirkbride dies after Pendle Hill 'canopy collapse'

A man has died in a paragliding accident on Pendle Hill in Lancashire.

Rob Kirkbride, 48, of Lytham, fell 30ft (9m) to the ground after the canopy of his glider collapsed at Well Springs in Sabden near Clitheroe on Wednesday.

Emergency services including the air ambulance were called about midday but Mr Kirkbride died at the scene.

His partner Angela Feehan said: "The only thing that we can take any comfort from is knowing that he died doing something he loved."

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of his death.

Police said Mr Kirkbride had been paragliding with a friend.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident.
