Three properties have been searched by police as part of an investigation into financial irregularities at Lancashire County Council (LCC).

Officers executed warrants in Knowsley and Southport in Merseyside and in Preston, Lancashire on Wednesday.

The raids were in connection with an ongoing probe into One Connect Limited, a partnership between BT and LCC, and how it awarded contracts.

Two men have attended a police station voluntarily. No-one has been arrested.

Tendering process

A Lancashire Constabulary spokeswoman said: "The searches follow a referral from LCC made last year outlining concerns in relation to a number of financial irregularities.

"Two men have so far attended a police station by pre-arranged appointment as part of an ongoing investigation.

"We will also be speaking with a third man in the coming days," she added.

LCC is currently investigating the tendering process of a £5m fleet contract and the authorisation of a £500,000 payment to a senior officer.

Last November, it referred the matter to police after seeking legal advice.
