An 11-year-old boy who died when he fell into a Lancashire canal has been named locally as Robbie Williamson.

He had been crossing the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on a pipe when he lost his balance near Lowerhouse Lane, Burnley, at about 19:00 BST on Tuesday.

He was pulled from the water by Peter Graham who lives near the canal. Mr Graham said he had heard someone shout there was a child in the canal.

He gave Robbie CPR before he was taken to hospital but he later died.

Lancashire Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.
