About £10,000 worth of "potentially lethal" fireworks have been stolen in the Preston area.

Lancashire Police said thieves took boxes containing 160 fireworks, meant for professional displays, between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The fireworks are Category 3 listed under the Fireworks Act 2003 and must be viewed from over 25m (82ft) away in a controlled display.

Details of the suppliers of the fireworks have not been released.

PC Vicky Salkeld said: "The stolen fireworks are potentially lethal if used by members of the public."
