A Blackpool man has pleaded guilty to killing a two-year-old girl.

Connor Gibson, 23, of Melrose Avenue, admitted the manslaughter of Kacey Hambleton who police said died of a "number of serious injuries" in April.

He was originally accused of murder but the Crown Prosecution Service accepted his guilty plea to the lesser charge at Preston Crown Court.

Gibson was remanded in custody until his sentencing at the same court on 10 October.

'Tragic circumstances'

Emergency services found Kacey "unresponsive" on 10 April.

She was initially taken by ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but was later transferred by air ambulance to Alder Hey in a critical condition.

She died two days later.

A post-mortem examination found Kacey had suffered severe head injuries, a lacerated liver, along with bruising to the lining of her stomach as well as bruising to other parts of her body.

Det Insp Richard McCutcheon said: "At the heart of this tragic case is the sad death of a young child who needlessly lost her life at the hands of Connor Gibson.

"I am thankful that today's plea has spared Kacey's family the ordeal of having to sit through a trial so that they do not have to relive the tragic circumstances surrounding her death."
