Skelmersdale bonfire explosion seriously injures boy, 17

A 17-year-old boy suffered serious burns to his face in an explosion at a bonfire in Skelmersdale.

Lancashire Police believe the blast, which happened on Wednesday night in Cornbrook, may have been caused by something put onto the fire.

The teenager remains in a serious condition in hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Two men, aged 36 and 42, have been arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion likely to endanger life.

The force said the men, both from the Skelmersdale area, were being held in police custody for questioning.
