Blackpool cyclist 'hit by wave' claim sparks sea search

A report a cyclist had been swept out to sea after being hit by a wave in Blackpool sparked a search operation with an RAF rescue helicopter.

A member of the public on the upper promenade reported seeing a cyclist on the lower promenade disappearing after being hit by a wave at about 17:10 GMT.

Coastguard rescue teams and Fleetwood RNLI searched the sea while the RAF Valley helicopter completed two searches - but nothing was found.

No-one has been reported missing.

Graham Parr, who co-ordinated the search at Liverpool Coastguard, said: "After a further search of the shore and the beach after the tide had gone out nothing else was found."
