Burnley driver critical after car hits tree near M65

A 27-year-old man is critically ill after his car hit a tree East Lancashire.

Police said he was driving on the A56, near Hapton, when he failed to negotiate the roundabout at junction 8 of the M65.

The man, from Burnley, suffered serious injuries in the crash in the early hours and was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital, police said.

The road was closed for four hours following the accident.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
