Woman dies in 'severe' house fire in Barrow, Clitheroe

A woman has died in a "severe" fire at a barn conversion in the Ribble Valley.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said the blaze started at the detached property on Whalley Road, Barrow, Clitheroe at about 05:20 GMT.

Police said a man escaped the fire and has been taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

Crews from five fire engines spent three hours tackling the blaze. A joint police and fire service investigation is under way into the cause.
