A small plane has "overshot" the runway at Blackpool Airport.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the four people on board were unhurt in the incident, which happened at about 11:50 GMT.

Firefighter Steve Boyne tweeted: "Crews assisting at Blackpool Airport with a jet crashed on runway. All souls safe."

The airport closed in October but has since reopened to small aircraft. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch said it was investigating.

Owners Balfour Beatty closed the airport on 15 October with the loss of 100 jobs after failing to find a buyer.

Squires Gate Airport Operations Limited is unavailable for comment.
