Post-pub Darwen collapse death 'no crime'

A man arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a Lancashire man has been released without charge after police found no crime took place.

A police investigation was launched after Thomas Mercer, 56, died on 5 November following a visit to a pub.

When he returned home, he collapsed and was taken to hospital where he died.

A 48-year-old man from Darwen was arrested and bailed but Lancashire Police have now concluded that Mr Mercer died due to a brain haemorrhage.

In a statement, police said "no criminal offences took place" and a file had been passed to the coroner after the conclusion of their inquiries.
