Morecambe boys arrested on suspicion of raping 14-year-old girls

Five boys, including three aged 12, have been arrested on suspicion of raping two 14-year-old girls.

The attack happened on a cycle path between Trimpell Sports and Social Club and Central Drive in Morecambe at about 15:15 BST on Saturday, said Lancashire Police.

The girls were allegedly approached by a group of boys and then assaulted.

The three 12-year-olds and the other two youths, aged 14 and 15, have all been bailed until August.

Police said the boys who were also arrested on suspicion of assault by touching.

Det Insp Jason Richardson said: "We are treating this extremely seriously and I would appeal for anyone who has any information or who witnessed anything to get in touch with us.

"The girls involved are being supported by specially trained officers."
