An inmate who spent the night on his prison roof has given himself up.

Mediators had been talking to the man who climbed on to the roof of HMP Garth in Leyland at 17:00 BST on Thursday before he came down at 07:30.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said it was on standby after receiving a call alerting them to the incident.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "There were no injuries to anyone involved and the prison is now returning to a normal regime."

The Category B prison holds a maximum of 847 inmates and houses a specialist unit for sex offenders.
