Police are trying to solve the mystery of how a refrigerated trailer, reported stolen in Austria seven years ago, came to be found more than 1,000 miles away.

The 14m (45ft) tri-axle vehicle was discovered on Walton Summit Road in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire at about 06:00 BST.

Lancashire Police said the trailer appeared to have been abandoned there for up to a month.

A search of the chassis number revealed it had gone missing in 2009.
