Elderly couple targeted in arson attack on Leeds home
An elderly couple were targeted in a potentially "terrible" arson attack at their home in Leeds, police have said.
A window was smashed and flammable liquid was poured through the letter box of the house in Kingswood Road.
Police said the liquid did not ignite, but the couple who are aged in their 70s had been left very shocked.
Det Insp Richard Partis said: "Had the fire taken hold it is likely the couple's only escape would have been blocked and the consequences terrible."
Police said the incident happened at about 2315 BST on Monday and officers were carrying out patrols in the area to reassure residents.
Mr Partis added: "There is no obvious reason why anyone would target this couple in such a serious way.
"I am appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious around the time of the incident or who has any information to contact us immediately."
