Events and Attractions
Seacroft Gala takes place on Seacroft Village Green on Saturday 2 July 2011 between 12noon and 4pm. The Gala was resurrected four years ago to bring the community together and celebrate the history and heritage of the old Seacroft Village. Admission is free.
Quarry Hill Festival is a day of free performances, workshops, classes and behind-the-scenes insights from some of Leeds' cultural organisations based in the area. It all takes place on Saturday 2 July 2011.
Sweet Pea enthusiasts from across the north of England will descend on Mirfield for the 13th Yorkshire Sweet Pea Championships. Local businesses have decorated their shops and local schools are also involved, with their own class. Local society, Hopton in Bloom, are having their annual garden walk with a Sweet Pea theme. There'll also be craft stalls, tombola, and an advice stand. The event will be held in St Paul's Church, Newgate, Mirfield on Saturday 2 July 2011 from 10.30am to 4pm. Entry is free.
Theatre and Comedy
The Wiz: A Super Soul Musical is re-telling of The Wizard Of Oz made famous by Motown Productions' 1970s movie which originally starred Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor. The new production runs from Friday 24 June 2011 to Saturday 16 July 2011 at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds.
Geordie comedienne Sarah Millican will be testing out her new material for the Edinburgh Festival at The Original Oak, Headingley, Leeds on Tuesday 19 July 2011.
Dominic Cooke's adaptation of Malorie Blackman's novel Noughts & Crosses, comes to Huddersfield's Lawrence Batley Theatre between Thursday 11 August and Saturday 13 August 2011.
Art and Exhibitions
Charles Peck: A Different Place is a new exhibition at Dean Clough, Halifax from Saturday 11 June to Sunday 2 October 2011. Photographer Peck (1964-2009) worked in the Calder Valley predominantly but mainly kept his personal work to himself, until now.
Otley Arts Club will be holding their Summer Exhibition at the Courthouse Arts Centre, Courthouse Street, Otley from Monday 4 July until Saturday 30 July 2011 (closed Sundays). Admission free.
Impressions Gallery, Centenary Square have a new exhibition, Gentlemen of Bradford, which uses photographic portraiture to explore male fashion, identity and style. The exhibition in the Studio continues until Saturday 27 August 2011.
Guitarist Nick Svarc brings his Trio to play Wakefield Jazz - College Grove Sports Club, Eastmoor Road - on Friday 1 July 2011.
Everyone's favourite be-quiffed miserablist Morrissey plays the O2 Academy Leeds on Thursday 7 July 2011.
The Puligny Quartet, made up of four members of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, will be performing at Halifax Minster on Sunday 10 July 2011 as part of Halifax Festival. The string quartet will be performing music by Mozart, Webern and Brahms.
