Suicide watch woman found hanged in New Hall prison

A teenager who was placed on suicide watch in a West Yorkshire prison hanged herself and died three days later.

Mahry Rosser, 19, was serving three years in New Hall prison in Wakefield for a robbery in Swansea in November 2009.

Rosser was also facing outstanding charges for arson while in custody.

She was found hanging in her cell on Thursday evening and taken to hospital, but died on Sunday. The prisons ombudsman is investigating.

A Prison Service spokesman said: "Deaths in custody are a tragedy for family and friends, and have a profound effect on staff and other prisoners.

"As with all deaths in custody, the prisons and probation ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
