Six people have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death following a disturbance at a house party in West Yorkshire, police have said.

Peter Brocklesby, 50, was attacked near his home in Brooklyn Road, Cleckheaton, early on Saturday.

He suffered stab wounds to his back after it is thought he was asked to help deal with an "altercation".

A 21-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and four 19-year-olds are in custody on suspicion of murder.

Two of the 19-year-olds are male and two are female.

Detectives investigating the incident have been granted extra time to question the 20-year-old woman.

Mr Brocklesby died in Dewsbury District Hospital from stab wounds, according to a post-mortem examination.

Det Chief Insp Simon Bottomley, who is leading the investigation, said: "Officers have established that the incident which led to this man losing his life stemmed from an altercation at a house party at a nearby property on Brooklyn Road.

"The police and ambulance service were called to Brooklyn Road at around 12.50am, and we believe there were a large number of people in the area at the time."

Mr Bottomley repeated his appeal for anyone with information to contact police.
