A major road had to be shut and homes were evacuated following a possible arson attack at a shop in West Yorkshire.

Eight engines attended the fire at Poundstretcher in Keighley's Cavendish Street on Tuesday evening. Most of the single-storey building was affected.

The A6035 Bradford Road was closed both ways and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A fire service spokesperson said the fire had been contained in one building and added that arson had not been ruled out.

Emergency services used four breathing apparatus, four jets and two hydraulic platforms to tackle the flames.
