A couple have appeared in court charged with causing the death of a nine-year-old girl by dangerous driving in Leeds.

Shamirah Grant died after being hit by a car near Leopold Grove in Chapeltown on Tuesday evening.

A 13-year-old girl was also seriously injured and is recovering after surgery on her leg. An 11-year-old girl was also treated for leg injuries.

Leeds magistrates remanded Beatrice Mwamba and Brice Nguetcuessi, both 33 and of Leopold Street, in custody.

Police still want to speak to anyone who saw a green Vauxhall Astra being driven in the area or the collision itself.
