Harewood accident: two women killed

Two women have died and a third is seriously ill in hospital after their car was in collision with a lorry near Leeds, police have said.

The crash happened at the junction of Arthington Lane and Weardley Lane, near Harewood, on Wednesday evening.

The 58-year-old car driver and her 85-year-old front seat passenger both died at the scene.

An 84-year-old woman, who was in the back of the car, was "very poorly" at Leeds General Infirmary, police said.

The women are all believed to have come from outside West Yorkshire, officers added.

The lorry driver was not injured.

The road was closed for about six hours as police examined the crash scene.
