Gavin Clarke death: Man charged with assisting an offender

A 23-year-old man has appeared in court charged with assisting an offender in connection with the death of a man who was shot in the face in Leeds.

Gavin Clarke, 34, died in hospital on 12 August after being shot in the face in the Chapeltown area on 8 August.

Bilal Bakhat, of Hillcrest Avenue, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody.

Two men from Leeds have appeared in court charged with the murder of Mr Clarke.

Sohail Mahmood, 28, of Saville Road, and Afzal Arif, 23, of Elford Grove, have been remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court on 23 August.

Mr Bakhat is also to appear before the city's crown court on 23 August.

Four other people have been charged with assisting an offender and are also due to appear before the city's crown court on the same day.
