Five men arrested over Knottingley railway cable theft

Five men have been arrested after 86m (282 ft) of cable was stolen from a railway line in West Yorkshire, causing disruption to thousands of travellers.

The men, aged 21, 29, 30, 31 and 37, were arrested at their homes in South Yorkshire following the theft near Knottingley station on Thursday.

British Transport Police (BTP) said it caused major disruption to rail services in the area.

The men have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
