Wildcats rugby player Greg Johnson jailed for bar attack

A rugby league player has been jailed for two years for wounding and sexually assaulting a woman in a bar.

Greg Johnson, 21, of Newsome Road, Huddersfield, was immediately dismissed by Wakefield Trinity Wildcats after he was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court.

Johnson, who joined the Wildcats from Huddersfield Giants, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and sexual touching at a previous hearing.

The charges relate to an incident in a Huddersfield bar in February.

Johnson was also ordered to join the sex offenders' register for seven years.

In a statement, the Wildcats said: "Johnson, who joined the club in April until the end of the 2011 season, has been immediately dismissed by the club following being found guilty of the incident which took place in February 2011, before he joined the Wildcats.

"No further comment will be made regarding this matter."
