Police worker Angela Pearson denies mum death charge

A support worker at West Yorkshire Police has pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of her 82-year-old mother.

Angela Pearson, 52, is accused of gross negligence in connection with the death of Eileen Pearson, from Fairway, Guiseley, on 10 May last year.

Ms Pearson, of Ghyll Royd, Guiseley, appeared at Manchester Crown Court.

She is accused of failing to provide adequate food, nourishment and care to her and failing to summon timely medical help.

This amounted to gross negligence which was a substantial cause of her mother's death, it is alleged.

It is alleged that as the daughter and carer of her mother she owed her a duty of care, which she breached.

Her trial, which is scheduled to last up to three weeks, will start at Preston Crown Court on 26 June.
