Man admits knife attacks on two women in Garforth

A man has admitted attempting to murder his ex-partner and her mother at a house in Leeds.

Leslie Stephen Cunningham, 40, stabbed Stephanie Gardener and her mother Angela repeatedly at their home in Garforth in August 2011.

Cunningham, of Branch Road, Gildersome, forced his way in to the property on Bar Lane, and used a knife to attack Angela, 55, and 25-year-old Stephanie.

He will be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court at a date to be set.

'Covered in blood'

Both women were helped by neighbours and an off-duty doctor and two nurses, who had seen them lying injured on their driveway.

Teresa Dean, who lives nearby, said at the time: "I was just looking out of the blinds and I saw the mother and the daughter come out the door covered in blood.

"I told my children to stay inside, I ran out with the phone, dialling 999, and she was just covered in blood.

"She'd been stabbed in the neck."

Cunningham went missing after the attacks and handed himself in after a police search lasting several days.
