Customs raid on Leeds canal boat

Customs officers investigating an alleged £1m VAT fraud have raided a canal boat moored in the centre of Leeds.

The raid was carried out alongside police and UK Border Agency staff. Richard Williams, 64, was arrested.

Mr Williams was bailed until 19 April, and the investigation is ongoing.

HM Revenue and Customs said it was investigating VAT repayment fraud and money laundering in Lancashire and Cumbria.
