A missing man from West Yorkshire who is thought to have been murdered is a former police officer.

John Hay, 61, from Fenay Bridge, Huddersfield, has not been seen since 15 March.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed Mr Hay, who recently worked as a builder, had been an officer in the former West Yorkshire Constabulary in Huddersfield.

A 63-year-old Huddersfield man arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday remains in custody.

Police previously said they believed Mr Hay was in the East Yorkshire area as his white van was seen in Hessle and was later abandoned by the Humber Bridge.

Detectives have asked anyone who saw Mr Hay after 15 March to contact them.

He is described as white, 6ft 4in tall, of average build and with thick white hair.

He was last seen wearing navy or black trousers, a white t-shirt and a gillet.
