Council acts to move travellers from Batley site

A council has started legal action to reclaim land occupied by travellers in West Yorkshire.

Kirklees Council said it had instructed lawyers to remove the nine families from Carters Field at North Bank Road in Batley.

A council spokesman said the land had been occupied since Sunday, 17 June and the case would be heard at the county court on Monday.

No-one was available for comment from the Gypsy Council.
