Police name Rotherham man killed in M1 crash near Leeds

A man who was killed in a crash on the M1 in West Yorkshire has been named.

Robert Richardson, 64, from Rotherham died when the Chevrolet car he was driving collided with a Ford Transit van, West Yorkshire police said.

The crash happened on the northbound carriageway near junction 42, the M62 interchange, at about 12:40 BST on Tuesday.

A female passenger in her 60's who was in the car, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police said it was believed the car may have been driven slowly, or was stationary, before the crash due to a fault with the vehicle.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward.
