Watchdog to probe police response prior to M62 death

The police watchdog is investigating West Yorkshire Police's handling of calls about a man walking on the M62 who was hit by a car and killed.

Ben Lloyd, 24, from Doncaster, was knocked down on the westbound carriageway near Pontefract in the early hours of 21 December.

He had reportedly been seen walking near to junction 32 and was the subject of three calls to police.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating.

Details of the incident and the calls were referred to the IPCC by the force on 23 December.

The commission said it would look at what action was taken by police and whether national guidelines and the force's own policies were followed.

West Yorkshire Police refused to comment while a the investigation was ongoing.
