CCTV images have been released of a man who police believe may have "vital information" about a series of sexual assaults on young girls in Castleford.

Three girls were attacked at the weekend in two separate assaults.

West Yorkshire Police said the man in the image may have seen two of the girls at a shop in Half Acres, shortly before they were attacked.

A 27-year-old man arrested in connection with the assaults has been released on bailed.

Two attacks

The first attack happened on Saturday evening near Garden Street, in Half Acres, when two girls aged five and six, were assaulted by a man.

A second six-year-old girl was attacked by a man while playing with a friend in nearby Barnes Road the following day.

The suspect was described as a white man, aged 25 to 35 years of age, with light-coloured, short hair.

The CCTV image of the man police wish to speak to, was taken at a shop at the junction of Smawthorne Grove and Willow Road at about 17:35 BST on Saturday.

Det Insp Mark Catney said: "I would ask him to come forward as he may hold vital information which could assist the investigation. I would also ask anyone who recognises the man to contact police."
