Armed police search West Yorkshire for car gunman

Armed police were deployed in Batley, West Yorkshire following reports of a man waving a gun from a car and the sound of gunshots.

On Friday, a passenger was seen with a gun as he leaned out of Volvo which was chasing another car along Upper Road.

On Saturday, officers were called to Conway Crescent after reports of gunshots in the street.

Police have linked the two incidents and said were treating them as "targeted attacks".

Armed officers searched a property in Conway Crescent but nobody was found inside.

Det Ch Insp Steve Snow said that he was sure that somebody had witnessed the car chase or had seen people abandoning a silver Volvo V60 on Friday.

He added: "We would also like to hear from anyone who saw a black car leaving Conway Crescent around the time that the shots were heard."

West Yorkshire Police said it had increased patrols in the area.
