A fifth person has been arrested after a passenger in a stolen car died when the driver crashed it into a tree.

Luke Goodyear, 23, from Leeds, died when the silver Toyota Aygo car hit a tree in the city's North Park Avenue at about 15:45 BST on Saturday.

A 24-year-old man, from Wetherby, is held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Four people were arrested earlier. Two were bailed and two released without charge.

Police believe Mr Goodyear was the only passenger in the vehicle. The driver had fled the scene.

An off-duty police officer who was passing by administered first aid at the scene before Mr Goodyear was taken to hospital, where he later died.

The car had been stolen in a robbery in the Harehills area on 11 August, police said. Officers appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
