Man arrested after Leeds pensioner killed by lorry in Crossgates

A man has been arrested in Leeds after an elderly woman died when she was hit by a lorry on a shopping street.

West Yorkshire Police said the woman, who has not yet been identified, was knocked down and killed in Austhorpe Road.

The driver of the HGV, a 43-year-old man from Wakefield, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The accident happened at 11:00 GMT near Wilsons Butchers in Crossgates.

The road was closed for several hours while police carried out investigations.
